- PGT is a group of tests with different purposes, not one standard IVF package.
- A test result cannot guarantee a pregnancy or a child without health problems.
- Confirm the genetics team, testing laboratory and charges before agreeing to a pathway.
What the different names mean
| Term | What it investigates |
|---|---|
| PGT-A | The number of chromosomes in the sampled cells. |
| PGT-M | A particular single-gene condition or known familial genetic change. |
| PGT-SR | Chromosomal structural rearrangements, such as a translocation. |
“Third-generation IVF”, PGS and PGD appear in marketing and older terminology. Ask the clinic to name the actual test and its clinical purpose. A PGT-A price does not establish that a laboratory can develop or perform a particular PGT-M test.
For a known genetic condition or chromosome rearrangement, a genetics professional should review the reports and explain whether the proposed testing can address the question. The NHS genomics resource explains PGT-M and PGT-SR in the context of a known familial change.
How testing changes the pathway
Embryos are created through IVF, and a small sample of cells may be taken for testing. The laboratory pathway, storage arrangements and reporting time need to be agreed before treatment. Some testing requires preparatory work or information from family members.
Establish which organisation performs the biopsy, where the sample is analysed, who issues the report and who explains it. A clinic advertising PGT may use another testing laboratory. This affects records, turnaround and charges, and should be clear in your proposal.
Ask how the team handles a result that is inconclusive or reported as mosaic, and whether further discussion or testing would be offered. These are specialist decisions; do not interpret a laboratory label from a web guide.
What testing can and cannot establish
PGT is not a guarantee of implantation, live birth or the absence of all genetic and other health conditions. The sampled cells and the scope of the test set limits on what the report can say. Discuss the possibility of no embryo being recommended for transfer, and the implications before agreeing to testing.
The HFEA distinguishes the evidence for different outcomes with PGT-A: reducing miscarriage is not the same outcome as improving the chance of a live birth. It does not support routine PGT-A as an improvement in live-birth chances for most fertility patients. Your own indication and alternatives need a clinical discussion.
Testing embryos does not replace a discussion of screening or diagnostic options during pregnancy. Ask a genetics professional what follow-up is relevant to the test and your family history.
Reading Kyrgyzstan provider information
PGT appears in the reviewed service lists across our Bishkek directory. That is evidence of an advertised service, rather than independent confirmation of test availability, laboratory accreditation or a particular patient’s suitability.
Tang publishes a starting genetic-testing reference; its scope needs clarification. Tulip’s technical page describes PGT-A and PGT-M, but the exact test, reporting laboratory and arrangements for your case still need confirmation. Read the Tang fee notes and Tulip profile.
For cost planning, separate preparation, biopsy, sample handling, testing per embryo or group, embryo freezing, storage and later transfer. Ask what happens to charges if no suitable embryo develops or a sample needs reassessment.
Take the right reports to the consultation
Request a written testing proposal
- The exact test and the clinical question it is meant to answer.
- The required family or genetic reports and any test-development work.
- The responsible clinician, genetics professional and testing laboratory.
- Report timing, interpretation, uncertain results and embryo-storage arrangements.
- The itemised price and the plan if no embryo is available for transfer.
Bring original genetic reports and any translations requested by the team. A statement such as “a genetic problem in the family” is not a substitute for the laboratory findings needed to assess a specific test.
